Elephant Festival is celebrated every year in Jaipur, the Pink City
of Rajasthan. The festival is marked by the elephant processions in
which elephants decorated and bejeweled
with gold plated ornaments and the 'Mahaouts' sitting on the elephant's
back on the gold and silver 'howda'. The Elephant Festival starts
with a graceful procession of the elephants where the tourists can
enjoy the newly started game of elephant polo.
The 'Gaj Shringar' exhibition takes place during the festival and
displays the various elephant-ornaments; textiles (Jhoo) parapernalic
howdahs and carriages, paintings, medicines and food related to
the elephants.
The Dhaph and Gair dance mark the end of the Elephant Fair exhibiting
the spirit of the festival of Holi. Besides the dance performances,
there is a glittering display of fireworks which leaves you with
sweet memories lingering in your mind.
