Bharatpur
Bharatpur is considered as the Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan. Bharatpur
is popular for its bird sanctuary-the Keoladeo Ghana National Park
- finest in Asia rich avian variety. Every year the rare Siberian
cranes come to spend the winter in the warmer climate of Bharatpur.
Of the remnants of the royal past remains the marvellous Bharatpur
Palace housing a rich repository of a large number of ancient exhibit
that date back to the early 15th century.

Bharatpur (Keoladeo Ghana) National Park :
The
Bharatpur National Park is also known by the name of Keoladeo Ghana.
The name Keoladeo is derived from a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord
Shiva situated in the center of the park. The word Ghana means dense
and refers to the thick forest that used to cover the park area at
one point of time. The park houses approximately 375 species of exotic
birds, both resident as well as migratory. Out of those, almost 132
breeds inhabit the sanctuary. The migratory birds arrive not only
from different parts of India, rather, from places as far as Europe,
Siberia, China, Tibet, etc. Bharatpur also serves as a habitat to
animals like Sambar, Cheetal, Nilgai, Boar, etc.
Lohagarh Fort :
Lohagarh
or going by the literal meaning the 'Iron Fort' was built by Maharaja
Suraj Mal in the early 18th century. This fort is as strong as its
name; it withstood a number of British attacks. Lohagarh Fort has
three beautiful palaces inside- Kothi-Khas, Mahal-Khas and Kishori-Khas.
Bharatpur Palace and Government Museum :
The Bharatpur Palace owes its formation to a number of Maharajas.
This beautiful piece of architecture is a blend of the Mughal and
Rajput styles. The palace houses a number of apartments, decorated
with elaborately designed patterned floor tiles. The main central
wing of the palace has now been converted into a museum. The museum
exhibits rich collection of artifacts dating back to as far as the
2nd century. On display, is an array of antiquities, exquisite sculptures,
ancient inscriptions, etc.
Deeg (32 Km):
Once
the summer resort of the rulers of Bharatpur, it served as the second
capital of the region. This interesting town is strewn with massive
fortifications , stunningly beautiful gardens, magnificent palaces
and a colourful bazaar. Deeg used to be the royal summer resort of
the rulers of Bharatpur. It served as the second capital of the region.
It is dotted with a number of forts, palaces and gardens--well known
for their spectacular architectural splendour. The gardens have beautiful
tinking fountains and the aura exudes a majestic Mughal style. The
palaces worth visit are Gopal Bhavan and Suraj Bhavan.
